We're in a cost of renting crisis. 45% of UK households renting privately have unaffordable rents, and average rents have grown faster than wages in 11 of the past 15 years in England. Sky-high rents are bad for communities and bad for the economy. When rents can rise uncontrollably, housing benefit does not keep up, leaving many renters with a significant shortfall in their budget each month. Doesn't it make more sense to introduce limits on how much landlords can increase rents each year?
